On the recent posting by Cary of the collection of numbered, bullion TK skull tabs, there was a stray, unnumbered square patch, with a grommet, among the numbered tabs. Pictured below is another such tab which seems identical to the one posted by Cary (except for the placement of the grommet), down to the felt circle on the reverse. I was told that this was a manufacturer's example for production purposes. In other words, it was an supposedly an example of a finished tab that workers were to refer to during production for quality control purposes. Comments appreciated.

Here is the link to Cary's collection http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=358516 The teeth on the tab in this thread appear identical to the one tab with the grommet in Cary's collection. Again, note the reverse with the felt disc, and the white and black threads in the grommet. I would say they are either both good or both bad as I cannot see any difference between them. Comments appreciated.

Both appear to have been made at the same time and place, IMHO. Looking at the patches overall (backing material, backing weave, backing edges, edge frays, grommet size, grommet configuration, color of threads through the grommets, weave of the threads through the grommet, size of the felt disc on the reverse, color of the felt disc on the reverse, starch or light glue traces on the reverse, etc etc etc), I could see no differences in the overall. Both are real, or both are fakes, IMHO. There is, of course, a difference in the condition, with Cary's virtually mint.
