    Deschler SS skull

    Hi,

What are you opinions on this skull? It looks like it has been repainted one with silver paint?
The material isn't CupAl. Can it be zinc?

    Kind regards,
    Gerd V

That's a weird one, not sure what to make of it.

            skull

I like it , it has been squeezed a bit over time , but it has really nice character, everything else seems to look proper as well to me

Ouch ! I was caught out there on this one. May i ask what is indicating that this was cast . I did not see anything that was representative of a cast copy.what am i missing ?

from the 3rd pic it does look like zinc under silver paint. would have to have it in hand and check with other zinc examples to be sure. 1/52 mark looks right. and proper detail between teeth and nose..chris has a pretty good eye on these im not sure..tom

The best give-away would be the upper-left crossbone. It is too narrow.
This is common amongst the repros that I have seen of this "M1/52" marking variation, (which only appears on zinc original skulls).
The other repros that I have seen were also heavily pitted like this one.
Details above the teeth are also wrong.

                    Best, Chris

                      Skull

Ah , interesting , i thought from the pics that the pitting was lifting marks from the zinc to the silver , i also asumed that the roughness of the skull was attributed to wear and tear , i need to start looking much closer at the fine details.
