    Otto

Question....is Otto still with us? I would love to meet just one of those guys.

Am I correct that Himmler's daughter, Gunrun, runs a home for former WSS members?

    Just wondering.

When I sit here now and look around, the number who are gone can't help but be anything other than depressing. It's just the reality of 1 generation having friends in another generation.

Maybe it has changed for the better, but I always felt German vets and their groups "remembered" their service more in some ways that US vet groups. At least many I knew lived longer than average lives and were active beyond the norm, well into their 80s which seems rare (at least where I live). Borosow was still sharp and active before he died at 90, Gustav Lombard was nearly 100 as examples.

The dumbest thing was so called "professional" scholars or writers didn't bother with these men for the most part when they had the chance. Having more education, resources, and time than me a lot more could have been put on paper. Something only a half or whole generation after can do. What a waste. I absorbed and did all I could do the best way I could, wrote as much as I could, and just have to live with that as a "best effort." But I wanted to do more and often wish I was older to have been there earlier.

Thanks, kinder words than I feel I've actually earned. Here's a photo from the private part of Hausser's birthday gala for your interest with Hausser, Hubert Meyer, and Wencke. Veterans researched and found the unit music from Hausser's first Army posting and hired a military band to play it at the party. Heinz Lindner told me Hausser was totally dumbfounded and firmly said "I will not cry" while he stood to listen.

Mark, I assume "remembered their service more" is about certain respects different cultures have. Respect is for my view a big missing essay that is getting more and more lost, especially in our current days.

All the time. Newest one was released in April 2009:

Next one goes to publisher later this year.
