It is a rank pip for an SS-Oberschutze, I think the equiv. of a Private First Class in the Us Army. It was to be worn on the left sleeve, under the national eagle.
They should be silver-grey thread embroidered on wool. These look okay from the pics."Activity! Activity! Speed! I greet you."
