Construction and materials seem okay from the photos but it seems rather "minty."

Not much to go on here. Hard call.

Yes, it certainly is minty. Everything that came with it was as well. regards, Robert

Maybe it has been in storage awaiting the Fourth Reich.

You have to go hands on, and with your gut on that piece. nothing jumps out as blatantly wrong. Fondle it and smell it, and consider the provenance.

I have been looking for a salty field worn Sturmbannfuhrer tab for a long time.

                Robert,

I see no red flags here.
                Imho it's a good one

                  Hi Robert,

To me it looks like an original unissued blank rank tab with origianl pips applied. For display reasons it could be deemed real, as far as having a historical significance of being an original SS majors collar tab that was either worn or in the pocession of an SS major, I would say no.

                  Regards,
                  Dave.

                    I like your assessment Dave.

This is what I call "scary mint", That said if original insingias were kept in a stable clean environment they can look tailor-shop brand new.

I have seen stuff this well preserved come out of cigar boxs etc. that were well keep in a house.

If the features are correct I would not worry about the condition, especially if there are other mint items that you know are good.

                      Nice tab!

Let's see some pictures of the rest of the stuff, to compare 'mintiness' to!

Minty can be scary, but it's better than that horrible artificial aging on so much of the bad stuff circulating around!

This is a piece I got a while back, so the stuff is distributed into other cases, but I'll take some of them tonight.

I am getting another group of unissued SS insignia on Sunday, this group from the local Craigslist - if you don't like minty that looks like it fell off the truck, you'll have to cover your eyes!

I think Dave nailed it. The pip prongs do not have that "been there for 65 years" look to them. Even unissued items acquire that "been together forever" look.
