So,I just want some clarification here ok,after being lambasted on the EK forum,I would like to know something. You just stated that you are offering this cap for sale.If it came from your own relations, you feel it is real and you are a beginner at this hobby why may I ask do you wish to sell such and advanced item as an SS cap with provenence from relatives, and are the EK with spange and other items up for sale as well ?There is also the fact that your EK that came with this was found to be a fake.Any SS cap with a familiy letter of provenence would be worth quite a bit to me textbook or not.But that is my own personal view.I must agree with Tony, the hat is only worth the insignia cost and the cap cost a total of about $500 while a textbook version would rate around $2000 these days or more.Do you have the letter your relatives surely sent you with these items yet?To be honest with you if it came with fake items it will be hard to get it to stand on its own as a period piece.

Your right my apologies to you.I was just under the impression that you were excited to discover relatives in Germany that had a connection to the Reich and offered you the belongings of a Gentleman who worked in an office job.Who won the EK1st class with spange for bravery in the field in both wars and also wore the cap of a coastal artillery enlisted man in the Waffen SS.I was not sure as to what you collect so I was a bit confused about why you're selling these items.I originally thought you posted them to show your recent score of ultra rare items to the forums and not to solicit sales. My apologies again. If I am out of line I will take whatever punishment is deemed appropriate.

I have seen plenty of period pics of SS officers wearing army cut overseas caps. So I cant see why a coastal artillery overseas cap could not be used by a member of the Waffen SS but it would not be the norm. (maybe material shortage or joined the SS and retained his cap). While your cap is not a textbook SS cut it unfortunatly affects the value to basically what a Coastal Artillery overseas is worth with SS insignia added. Unfortunate but the pureist want textbook and will pay the $ for such!! Thanks, Glenn"A Man's Got to Know His Limitations"

Thank you, Glenn, for that well thought out and written response.
Greg, to the heart of the matter, no one is saying your cap is fake but merely a mixture of branches of service. This has been known to occur and has been stated already. Period. End of story. Next, John has done absolutely nothing wrong in questioning your story or motive. Trust me, there are other members here with the same exact questions. If you're going to post items and present their stories you had better be ready to respond to questions and support what you say in a logical and methodical manner. To be blunt, this stuff costs a lot of money and generally members here are skeptical of stories as there is not one of us here that hasn't been burned at one time or another and will not purchase anything until their questions have been satisfied.Best regards,
Tony
