Im Dienst der Waffen SS armbands

    Greetings

I've come across these armbands a few times now and am wondering whether I should pick one up. Are they fantasy pieces? They don't show up in my insignia book so i'm thinking that is a bad sign.

    Many thanks
    Scotty

        Scotty,
I have seen period photographs with individuals wearing this armband so these are not fantasy armbands. That being said, I have yet to run across an authentic one. All the ones I've ever handled glowed big-time under UV, had nylon thread holding them together that melted when burned, and most always had a bad stamp on them. I cannot judge the ones you depict since they need to be handled and tested in person. Do not give up your search for these, though, just because you cannot find this type in any book (although I could swear it is depicted in Brian Davis' book). There are literally hundreds of authentic German armbands that are not depicted in any current reference books (i.e. the countless DRK armbands with town names and functions like Sanitätshalbzug, Kreisfrauenverein, Sanitätskolonne, etc.). Good luck, Chris

Thanks for that info guys, glad to hear they aren't fantasy pieces. I guess i'll just have to be extremely careful if I do decide to pick one up.

            Cheers

There is a photo of a person wearing the Im Dienste der waffen SS white arm band in Angolias SS cloth p 466. However the spelling in both examples are Dienste. They are not fantasy pieces but I am not sure the ones posted here are originals.
