If a man gets an award from a differnt branch of the service, he could wear it.

It is likely that he came from the Heer.

      Cheers

I remember a SS group where the SS Officer wore a WH dagger to his SS tunic. There is nothing to strange about this Spange.

He could also have had service in the Reich Arbeit Dienst (RAD) as every young man had to put in his service to labor. In the Wehrmacht (Armed Forces), you could wear two military-styled (blue) ribbons; or a combination of RAD, Police or Military, etc. You could also wear one military, police, or labor service and one SS; however, you could ONLY wear ONE SS ribbon. Enlisted were awarded the 4-Year SS Long Service Medal, whereas the officers were not. The 25-Year SS Long Service Medal was never awarded because nobody had the equivilent time in by 1939, when the SS long service medal awards were suspended.

I have an SS tux brought home by a vet, with it's orig. decorations still on it, to include a Luftwaffe medal still pinned on it via it's blue ribbon.
