Thanks to your mental support Ian,
It´s really making you sad when you dicover a piece you have estimated as a real one is a reproduction. But I woul lovely like to hear on what points you can see on the badges that they are reproductions. ´Maybe those gentlemen who just wrote that short 2 sentences: " it`s a fake" can give one or two information, how they can see that on the photos, what details are wrong, what made them think these are fakes.

        Jan,

All I can tell you is that those badges are instantly recognizable as the
most widely circulated known fakes in existance today. They are
masquerading as Deschler M1/52's but are nowhere near as exquisite as
originals. The skulls don't look too bad from the front when aged, but the
backs give them away. For security reasons I'm not going to say why.
Just study them closely and you will recognize them from now on. The
eagles have a little worn area on the wing at the viewers upper right
corner which I've never seen on an original. Once again the backs tell
the story. I won't even get into composition as I'm no metalurgist and
on these repros it doesn't matter anyway for the above stated reasons.

            Hey Jan,
As a very-novice collector my advice is to stay away from anything 'too rare'. I've heard about even serious collectors with 25-years experience getting fooled by some of the fakes coming out of E.Europe. I also just stay away from anything SS (I've learned the hard way as well, you are not alone). I know others that are comfortable buying such things as officers SS peaked caps, but they tend to be more advanced collectors (much more advanced than me). Perhaps being so conservative makes me a boring collector, but I sleep better at night purchasing only standard heer or LW caps (though fakes abound for these services as well). It helps to pony up the cash and buy from the select group of trustworthy dealers, e.g., Bill Shea or Peter Whammond. They occasionally have real SS peaked caps--but you have got to pay big money (multiple thousands of $) to get into that game.
You've done the right thing joining the forum!

              ok guys,
I see I need to do it in an other way. I bought those caps the badges are from almost 8-9 years ago, and was not conscious of there are so many fakes out. Also the collector I got that one from, seemed to be a trustable. So I started blue eyed to the world of collecting....and that`s the quittance. I have also one SS- M43 EM listed cap, and a camouflage EM Cap . To be truth I am not very looking forward to post them here, because I am afraid of getting the statement all are "fakes". I will post them here soon, as my membership is accepted. Would be a tragedy when all 5 SS items I got were all fakes, ohh my god what a unbelieveable percentage.... collectors world is a hard place to be...

I have bought some literature from Willkins and will have to study them cery closely. I got some books so far but like I saw there are not going to far in details...

Also I started to etablish a cloth and metal reference section, with 100% original badges, to have a reference to have the chance to compare them with any other items ....

I am still at the phase of learning, those caps I bought several years ago had been blue eyed boughts as I was not aware that there are so many fakes out, my conclusion is:
Ignorance does not protect you from punishment!
oh my god, where is my gooood money ...

              cheers
