Yes, when I started collecting I have gotten a "GD" marked machine gun ammo belt case....naturally to me that was a "Großdeutschland" item....I gave up the illusion pretty quick though.

Sometimes I lean back, wonder what have happened to it, while a single tear is running down my cheek, thinking about one of my first items that after all I have respected so little.

I am with Arek, it is "just" a maker's mark, look also at the FZZS badges that have the "S" rune in the maker's logo etc.. There are many other examples.

That is a nice piece nonetheless.
