    What the old wallet contained........

Today I visited an old woman, whos husbond served
as a volunteer in the WSS.
I asked if she had any photos from the war and she answered no.
But if she remembered right, she had his old wallet from that time.
I got the wallet opened it, and this was what it contained:
Dogtag, skul and eagle, Urkunde for Panzerkampf Abzeichen in Bronze,
his POW papers and 28 photos from the Totenkopf Division in Russia!

                  Nice little collection AJ.
Are all the pieces supposed to be from the same person? The dogtag does not match the info on the documents and the TTK, I can't say i have ever seen an authentic one like that-must be one of those unusual variations......

                    Hi
yes all the items come from the same person.
                    I can't see why the dog-tag and the document don't match ?
The person who owned the wallet died in 1979, so if the skull is a repro, which I doubt, it must have been placed in the wallet a long time ago. I can't belive that the widow, who is 84 yaers old today, did it.

Sorry AJ,don't mean to piddle on your chips but the fact it contains items from different people and a repro TK IMHO makes me think twice about jumping up and down about it. An interesting find none the less.

                        Hi Dan
I have no idea wether the TK is a repro or not. Holding the skull in your hand you can see that it has lost shape after a long time of storage in the wallet.
If the TK is a repo, there are possibilites how it could have ended in the group:
The veteran once bought a repro, over 25 years ago, made it look used and placed it there, or
                        The widow did.................
Any comments on the skull or the group are velcomme
I would like to hear why you think it's a fact, that the items come from different peolpe ?

                          Repro?

Yes, I too would like to know what makes you think the TK is a repro and why you think the set dont match Dan. Thanks

                            Tk is not repro,

Did you ever think that maybe dogtag belonged to a friend?

                            is that possible?

Guy gets blown away, vet grabs tag?

Maybe im fishing but I would grab something to remember him by.

                            Just a thought

Didnt people sometimes keep tags from there ex units, or their training units, etc, making it difficult to judge if the documents and the dog tag are from the same guy? Couldnt one soldier also keep his old dog tag as a souvenir when he was issued a new one when changing units?
