About the only two Waffen-SS divisions that you see wearing the tropical clothing is the Reichsfuhrer-SS (in Corsica and Italy), and the SS-Polizei-Division in Greece in 1944.

Its possible but unlikely because many members of Florian Geyer may have come from Reichsfuhrer SS. The Commander of Reichsfuhrer SS was from the SS Cavalry brigade originally and I think the unit diverged from the Cavalry Brigade...I no longer have my book to look it up so I may be way off mark here .

The Florian Geyer (8th Cavalry Divsion) preceded the Reichsfuhrer-SS (16 PG Division) - and generally the cadre for Reichsfuhrer-SS came from 3-SS-Panzer-Division (Totenkopf). There was no real relatikonship between these formations - and I doubt that FG personnel wore this tunic except for the very odd exception.

The 24th Division (Karstjaeger) also wore the "sahariana" tropical tunic.

Actually the Reichsfuhrer-SS Division was formed from SS-Begleits-Battalion Reichsfuhrer-SS, which found itself in the Russian lines around Leningrad. Later developed into a Brigade and was stationed in Corsica.

Karl Geselle was originaly a member of the SS Cavalry brigade he brought several members with him when he went to Reichsfuhrer SS...both Florian Geyer and Reichsfuhrer SS fought in Hungary at the end of the war. Mark Yerger's book Riding East sheds more light on Geselle a KC winner. I no longer have the book.

Hi Bobwirtz,

You can also add the SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Lehr-Regiment to the mix. However when I said cadre, I referred the selection of key commanders and staff (from Simon the Div Comd to Reder who commanded the Aufklarungs Abteilung and many others). This was a similar process to the provision of LAH cadres to the HJ Division. Rikmenspoel refers to this in his book - see also the German language history of the 16th Division (where many early pictures show the TK collar tab in wear among the divisional staff).

By the time the Reichsfuhrer-SS arrived in Hungary (February 1945) , the FG Division had been virtually destroyed in Budapest.

yes nice but not common,and its the only one photo so far ,most perhaps this soldier was transfered to antoher unit from "deutschland" as you know for sure the regiment "deutschland" was a part of division "Das Reich"
