    Cap Insignia any good?

Okay is the insignia any good, the Cap is from an old collection so if they are fakes they must have been made in the 60's or early 70's. I am only interested in the Eagle and Skull.
    cheers Robert

          Great

Just goes to show you cant trust old men with stories the dude must have been 80 and said he had owned the cap 35 years well I guess Ive been conned. What can you do to an 80 year old man?

Those fakes have been around a long time. He is probably right about how long he has owned the cap. So, you probably don't need to rough him up or anything.

Sadly you need to be more knowledgable BEFORE buying anything SS let alone colour-piped SS caps. Those insignia are very common fakes, as a quick search here would have shown you. Not having a go at you but it is the truth.

                Cap

yes lads you are spot on. I should have known but sometimes when you have to decide on the spot and you are away from home you have to take a chance. Early last week I took a punt on a SS Dagger which turned out to be original. When the old gentleman walked up to me at the antique fair where I have a table with a convincing story as to the Caps origins I took a gamble. I had reservations but he swore he had owned the Cap for 30-35 years. I believe he thinks the Cap 100% original. He has a Table also and sells Royal Doultons. I had mentioned previously I collect German militaria. He is now 80 and was parting with his acquisitions which he had bought decades ago. As soon as I got home I did a search and alarm bells rang. Is the Cap a total fake it seems well constructed. I never thought Id own a panzer piped SS Cap so I never researched SS Visor Caps especially their insignia and I guess I will never own one. Now Im at home I can see how nerdy the Eagle actually is.
                cheers Robert

                  It's the 'pigeon head' fake.

We have all been in this situation before. We are out shopping with the family and see a yardsale etc... We see a potentially good deal and sometimes its worth rolling the dice. There isnt anybody that is an expert on everything wwii. Dont feel bad Robert
