Is that one of those early ones made of what some people call 'Tombac'? I once read that Tombac isn't really the very same as Brass, as it has a higher amount of copper in the alloy. Is that correct?

Tombac is a brass with large amounts of copper.

Brass, as you said, is an alloy as well (copper&zinc) and not a natural metal as some might think. So tombac is just a brass variation.
