I am the one who sold you this eagle and IMO it is a nice original. I do not think it is any reason to say it is a fake because of this minor flaw. As to my knowledge there are no good fakes of the M1/167 eagle.

Felix , this is in no way a thread to discredit our deal or you, i just have a feeling of doubt about this eagle and 3 other exactly like it , the thread is a learning expeience for all of the members including myself, ive purchased many skulls and eagles from forum members and to me this is a safe place for us to trade buy and disguse my concerns about insignia in this thread.when i look at an eagle or skull i look for the qualty of craftsmanship that has be put into it, in the case of this particular 167 eagle i have to ask myself why this would be allowed to be put on an ss cap AFTER GOING through an inspection process with such a bad flaw in the wing , but other members agree this is a characteristic of this maker , i accept that , that leaves the finish of the eagle and the size that is still in question to me,sure a box of these may have turned up somewhere and were spread out on the market at some point , the fact remains when i have any inkling of suspicsion i must follow through with the proper advise from the forum members and make my own conclusions accordingly until i feel satisfied with the end result good or bad. Again ,i am not questioning you felix i am questioning the eagle .john

i have to take back my words a bit here. Injection moulding is POSSIBLE for metal. there is such a thing as metal injection moulding, ALTHOUGH, back in ww2 it was very seldom used. Even if metal injection moulding was used, both front and back would be smooth and not see the molten metal flow marks.

At the end of the day, i still feel it is a cast piece.

It can never be centrifuge casting because centrifuge methods are only used for cylindrical objects such as large metal globes etc.

That eagle is absolutely original. I simply raised the question regarding the particular production method Hicke used, which resulted in so many imperfections.

well it seems there are many ways this eagle may have been produced, i will pose the question of the size , i am comparing an aluminum 167 to this 167 on this thread and there is a definit size difference the aluminum is larger ,this one here is smaller.is there a logical reason for this ? different dies maybe? i appreciate all of the efforts to comment on this thread.

I am satisfied with the results of this thread , the eagle as the members said is a good one with all of the proper characteristics of this maker and finish . In the process of learning about ss insignia there are times where i tend to over think way too much, and that is because i am still learning and i do not want to make a costly mistake . . So thank you to the members who contributed the information and opinions and thanks to felix for selling me this nice eagle.

You can never be too careful in this hobby, but congratulations on the eagle!

As for the aluminum dies, they are similar, but different.
