    SS M-43 cap

Has anyone seen the black M43 trap insignia on a non panzer cap? Also, most SS M43 I have seen in photographic refs or for sale dont have bakelite buttons. I have an M43 I picked up for peanuts that is constructed in this way with the above type of insignia. I have removed the insignia to look at the back since these images were taken. Let me know what you think on this one. I dont have much faith in it because of the feet on the Adler as well as the Swaz looking out of proportion.

I have pics but cant post, dont have permission.
    Thanks to all.

      Traps

      Hello,

I have a photocopy of a picture from a friend, which shows 8 or 9 SS soldiers wearing field grey M43s - but the caps have black panzer trapezoids on them. An example of late war, using what was available.

The final, late war panzer M43 referred to as a Dachau style has two bakelite buttons and is most often seen with the Pirate trapezoid. This trap may be what you are describing. Please free to email me a photo and I'll post it for you - harriscolorado@msn.com.

        That's more like it.

I think I really screwed the pooch on this one by removing the insignia because I was so freakin sure it was phoony. I sent the pics to Johnny to post for me. From what I have found it looks like I wrecked an original W-SS M43. The interior of the cap is bloodstained all around the brim with large staining to the center of the cap offset somewhat.

I got suspicious because the trapezoid was sewn through the rayon lining and also because the eagle looked more like a chicken than an eagle, I hadnt seen SS eagles with feet except for the Tombak cap eagle I had. All other sewn insignia I'd seen didnt have it. And I was severely lacking in reference material, none of my friends collect, and I didnt have a PC then.

The smell was dead on and construction looked right so I figured someone had taken an original M43 and put a repro trapezoid on it.

                trap

                Hello,

IMO, the trap is a reproduction. I'll post some photos tonight of an original and I believe I have this same repro as an example. I'll post some repros too. Sorry.

I agree with Paul. Although the trap itself is well done, the shape of the bird and TK are just not there like an original.
                  Best regards,

                  Tony

                      Traps

                      Lloyd,

Here is a comparison photo for you. The original is the upper left. The other three are repros. The one you have is the bottom left. The fakes of the double row of teeth trap are some of the best copies of SS insignia.

                      Have a good one,

                      Paul
