Handschar SS tab removed from veteran's WW2 patch blanket...material is like brushed cotton not wool.

WOW very cool. No doubt a good piece based on the source!
Were there other German insignia on the blanket?
If not, probably OK to remove this one as its unique and worth a closer look! Otherwise maybe its a shame to have altered the blanket... but I would have done the same thing... The patch below it in the 6 o'clock position certainly does not look lile a WW2 military patch...

the embroidery is the known type but the cotton-like base material is unknown to me... looks good to me too...

The material almost looks like the early velveteen or moleskin...but maybe that is just from being washed as billbert said. Either way it is unusual and looks good.

Hello, it is just worn velveteen. (which I like!)
Compare it to this one I bought recently. As you see the vertical stripes come through were the tab is worn.
