              Hi Perry;

              It's a nice original maroon fez you have!
              Best regards,

                Thanks, I didnt know they were making these at such a early date. When you see one for sale they allways seem mint and they're usually listed as a Dachau type..
                Is that a stamp exclusive to the SS?
                This one came from the vets son yesterday...

                  Anyone with a speculation as to the early date and type of stamp?

                    Hi Perry, Peter Von Lukas had one just like this on his site a couple of years ago now. In fact I thought your pics were of the very same one at first glance. I emailed Peter about it because I was curious how it was dated 1940 on a fez which was not introduced until 1943. Peter replied that he beleived that the sweatbands used were old stock.
                    Cheers, Ade.

                      Thanks Adrian, do you remember if the stamping was like this and if the sweatband was black leather? Just trying to learn alittle more about these...

                        Hi Perry;

                        I owned a red one at one time and mine was exactly like yours. Will you be selling yours?
                        Best regards,

                        Tony

                          I'm going to keep this one Tony, thanks for inquiring.
                          I have been working on this small group since a few weeks before the Max. I was taken back by the 1940 stamp. Not about originality but more of maybe they were making them before '43. I just didn't know. This one looks to have been worn wartime and is moth niped throughout. It has just seen the light of day, the vets son told me it has been in his mothers attic the last 50 years. Sadly these things became avaliable because she's on her way to a rest home and they're selling her house.

                            Hi Perry, yes the sweatband and stamping on yours was identical to Peter's example.
                            Cheers, Ade.

                              Anyone have a green one? Are these made any different than the maroon ones other than the color?
