Just wanted to give you all an update, I have the Tunic in my possesion now, and I love it. Cuff Title looks 100% original to the Tunic, so that is an awesome find. I want your opinion on the right breast pocket loop. I think it might just be original, and if that's the case I might have a better way to help identify the soldier who this would have belonged to. Or atleast narrow it down. Have a look at the pics. I've added the right and left pockets and the medal loops are the exact type. I also threw in an extra pic of what else came with the "hord". Also there was once a ribon bar pined through the Tunic above the left pocket, you can see the residual holes, about 2inches apart.

    Thanks again,
    Matt

Lovely tunic, I am green with envy. Regarding the righ thand pocket loop/s, they are not nearly as convincing and believable as the left hand ones, which I believe is original to the tunic. This said anything is possible. Jacques

Perhaps the tunic was tailored in Italy (pre or post armistice) using Italian tricot wool, which could explain also the odd tricot green wool used on the collar facing, which is indeed very unusual....
or it was tailored in Germany using "beute" Italian wool... This of course because the "der Fuhrer" Regiment (Das Reich) never served in Italy, but perhaps if it was tailored in Italy, it could have belonged to a transferred LAH or RFSS officer...now in Der Fuhrer Reg. of Das Reich Div.
Who knows...? No owners tags or tailor tags?
The cuff title and the shoulderboards are good. The rank tab also looks promising, but I can not judge the runes tab... Sorry. but it does have a chance this piece! The ensemble indeed looks very promising!!!
Nick or a former "der Fuhrer" now in RFSS or Karstjager etc. Note "der Fuhrer" Cuffband of surrendering SS Officer in Italy

Kamerad Besslein Du hast voll recht, diese unqualifizierten, nichtssagenden Äusserungen gehen auch mir auf den Wecker.
                Liebe Grüße

And what makes YOU qualified ? Beware many speak and understand German here.
You feel your qualified because youre German and know a few vets..that only qualifies you to eat bratwurst and pomme frites but nothing more.
Over here many get thier items from the guys who took them right off the back of a German they killed in action and many have the proof to show it..after your last thread Id say you were given a bunch of played with stuff from some sentimental old men who had thier real stuff taken by GIs.
Go back to the circus.I defended you in another thread but you proved the others right with this comment.

What Mr. Uncle Harmel (Heinz Harmel is now dead so we cant verify this) says here in German is that he agrees with Besslein that the tunic sends up alarm bells.... After the restored tunic he showed I would wonder what qualifies him to know what he is looking at?

Thanks for the translation John. Glad he doesn't like it anyway, that means it must be good

Personally I am tired of this kind of "self-proclaimed experts" comments.
Dear John and besslein read the Forum Rules and Regulations:

And by the way, what make you think you are experts?

duh lets see Ive only owned and examined over 15 SS officer tunics 3 enlisted/nco tunics a hundred or more pieces of loose insignia and a huge library of books lots of conversations with GI veterans and SS veteran or two and hands on access to other huge collections of SS materials... since 1974 .... thats over 30 some years...does that work for you?

To all others Im not tooting my horn at you please forgive the brash egotistical resume' of my hard learned lessons of tunic assesment ability...there are many here who have more talent and expertise that are often brushed aside by the likes of those who originally disturbed this thread...bnz...besslein...I was asked personally by the owner to please look at it which I did. I did not interject rude comments and clown pictures and or a german language "Im jealous so I dont like it" comment.

No, John, I rather prefer to hear all members, all opinions, not just "experts", who "examined over 15 SS officer tunics". Ww! Not you, neither besslein are in position here to judge who is qualified or not, experienced or not, who can post and who cannot. Live and let other to live.
