SS Runic tab with horsehair core

I acquired this nice salty tab from the e-stand a few weeks ago.

The interesting part is the "thread" core. It appears to me to be horse hair and not thread. Has anyone seen one like this?

It seems like making thread out of horse hair would be rather arduous. Perhaps it was used late in the war when there was a severe cotton shortage.

I don't believe there is any unterlagen either.

      Horse hair

It is very obvious you have never seen horse hair. That is not horse hair. It is the typical thread core used for bullion. Nothing special. Nice tab

That's not Horsehair but but but.... the Hair of Camp Inmates!!!!!!!!!! Oh alright I thought that sounded exciting. Nah, like Pete said, normal core.

Not sure this is really horse hair but I know horse hair (weave) was used for VT tunics in the bottom of the french cuffs insight straightness. But how many tunics are out who have this feature?

            weave

Curt that is common, I always assumed it was some type of rayon under the thin layer of bullion.

Its certainly silk. Among TR collectors, Rayon is the favorite "catch all" when identifying textiles...
