CurtD i think your doubt is because this one has no paint remaining.

Actually, the light that i used to take pictures of it was those orange colored desk light, not daylight. Its more black patina than bronze colored really.

I've seen this medal before in these threads below.
There are two things that looks weird: color & pebbling

                  Hi,
The color is chocolate with slight bronze color in actual fact and the pebbling does resembles the SS 8 year long service medal. I'll search the forums and post better comparison shots. Still learning but in honest fact im very sure this is good.

                  Better pictures :-

Yes, this medal keeps popping up. I have never understood why it is so glossy. It looks like someone oiled it. Even Renwax does not put on a shine like that.

                      Hi CurtD & cysior,

Both stewy & myself bought it from the same source - cobra-2001.
He has 3 same SS 4 Years Service Medal that he received from a vet.

I also measured the diameter of the medal too and its 38mm, where else reproductions are 37 to 37.5mm.
I was informed from another forum that the maker is P&L.

                        Imho

                        Hello,

I believe it to be an authentic period piece and based upon the look of that jump ring I'd say Petz and Lorenz, not Deschler.

As to the sheen. CurtD is correct in that Renaissance Wax does not leave a medal glistening. I wonder if it is a substance applied at the factory to assist in the packaging process? These vet acquisition were mostly done at factories as opposed to taking them from members of the SS. Apparently very few were ever awarded. Or so I have been told by senior collectors.

Why then do others not have the same look? Who knows, maybe they have been handled more. Another alternative might be that the substance is there as a result of the conditions under which it has been stored or handled over the last 60+ years.

Regardless, I think it's a fine piece with very nice details. A good solid strike.

                        Regards,
                        Stu

And all of 3 had that color? I don't know..
There is SS 8 years service medal on last Detlev's update - it has no finish left on it and i gotta say it looks odd too.
But..if your medal has correct weight and size ..it should be fine right?
