    Two eagles for opinions

These two odd ball eagles are attached to two tunics I own. One was acquired in the early 80's (1st eagle, the tunic having been found in the Netherlands) and the other one in the mid 90's (2nd eagle originating from the States). Lately I have been doubting if they are correct as I had some negative and positive comments on them. I really would like to clear for once and for all whether they are fakes or not. Any and all opinions are truly appreciated.

I think the reason why you get so few answers is the fact that it takes a lot of knowledge and guts to comment on "non textbook" bullion sleeve eagles. And for a reason - it is hard! The first eagle is exactly what you say, and odd ball. It is embroidered on top of a template made by paper but in shape that I have never seen before.

The second eagle tend to show a lot more "text book" characheteristics even though it is rather symmetric and sterile. Sterile refers to my instant gut feeling. It is well made and corresponds to most of the details we like to see.

Without having seen the tunics or having had a check up of the pedigree it is a wise thought to ask yourself if you would have bought a loose eagle of either kind shown. Let us put the price tag at USD 1500 a piece for the loose eagles. Thats a fair and attractive price for an original eagle.

If I were given USD 1500 to play with, I would have bought the second eagle. The thought of paying a load of cash for the first eagle based on it own merits would never have crossed my mind.

All in all I am very sceptic of the first eagle and I am rather convinced the second eagle is a good piece but would have wanted a hands on before taking those bucks out of my own wallet to make it mine.
