white runes
I have seen one of these helmets many years ago in the collection of Al Barrows and the runes were hand painted however some who looked at the helmet said it was post war added and some said period done. These early helmets were as we all know now were around and some were painted BLACK(runes) on the field gray WW1 helmets.I have seen one of them as well but the experts of the time said it too was post war.In those early years a lot of helmets were hand painted with all kinds of insg. from skulls to backward swas etc.
Enjoy your hobby

Dutch
What about the Dutch volunteers, ... has anybody seen a photo of their helmets showing painted runes on both sides. ? (43 sheer-rim pattern helmet)
I have a helmet from Arnhem which shows the runes carefully scratched away on both sides, ...
I've posted the helmet in the past, and been given the "post war kiddie painted it up" story .. but since then a few Dutch collectors have confirmed these helmets were correct.
