That container is a holder for replacement pencil leads for a dranfsmans pencil. They are commonly found in mapcases, because of tha ability to draw very fine lines.

Your friend did well and the owner of the pencil lead holder should be unhappy.

I was involved in a Trade awhile back when I let go of a Chained SS Dagger and a SS Para Smock (with a foto of the Trooper wearing it) for an original TK Posion Dispenser and one made specially for the Wiking Division. Look at this handsome haul................

Here is the Wiking posion dispenser. It contained multiple ampules of the deadly stuff, so you could kill off a Platoon a a time. Please note that the design of the container is very similiar to the post-war design for the "Pez Dispenser", one of the little Ironies of History eh?
