Totenkopfring der SS: private variations?

Hi guys,

I was dreaming or I remember I did read somewhere that along with the Totenkopfring der SS there are few "private feature variations" of the same ring and considered as originals?
I don't remember where did I find this info, but of course I can be wrong!

There were no private purchase Totenkopfrings in the pattern that was an official SS award.

Many rings, with various skull motifs were worn by members of the armed forces as well as civilians.

may you tell me if there were different makers of the Totenkopfring der SS with slighty variations between the rings made by the different firms?

The Otto Gahr firm was the sole supplier of TK rings. Any variations noted are due to hand finishing as multiple craftsmen were employed.
