Oberbayern shoulder board cypher question

i saw an allgemiene SS officer's shoulder board sell on some site a while back, something that threw me off about it was that it had a death's head from a visor hat as a cypher. until now I thought it was a fantasy piece but I just saw a similar example on the marshals baton site, can somebody tell me if that cypher actually used or if my skepticism is dead on?

Skull Cypher

Yes, it was actually used. The skull cypher is abount 35-40% smaller than a cap skull.
