      SS Skull

Looks to be an original but is a little bent out of shape. It is already bid up pretty high for the condition it is in . I am sure you will have a few to compete with though.

I don't know what makes those pinheads get in a bidding war with days left in the auction. All those fools are doing is driving the price up and drawing the attention of potential competition. It doesn't matter who's in the "lead" while the auction is in progress; it only matters who has the highest bid at closing. Anyone who bids before the final minutes is an idiot.

Thanks you all for your opinions. I've been actively looking for a skull for almost a year now and have not come accross anything less than $900. Snyder's has some, but I've read here to be very leary of him. I've come accross quite a few of the 800 silver sets; but again, I've read here that the 800 sets or anything with an SS cast into it is probably a no no. So where does one find a nice skull or a set ( with an eagle)? Thanks, Marc

Everything on Snyder's site is 100% fake. Also, you are right to stay away from skulls marked with runes and anything made of silver.

I doubt you will get many leads from other collectors regarding good sources for original insignia, particularly not for the below-market prices you desire. They are competing against you to find the same items. Hunters don't share the location of their best hunting grounds.

Stick with it, you will eventially find something offered for sale somewhere before anyone else does. That is the fun of it. However, you should be prepared to pay what it's worth. You can sometimes get really lucky and find something for a steal, but, odds are that what looks like a bargain isn't. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.

                  Good luck,
                  Brad

Ok, I'll try to be patient. I don't have a problem paying what something is worth. I just keep missing the opportunities.

I'm sure you'll find what you're searching for sooner or later, we've all missed opportunities more than once. As Brad wrote earlier, it's a competition.

                      Good Luck!

One reason is there are a lot of idiots out there, but the other reason is worse. There are crooks that have different email names and they or their confederates bid against themselves to artificially drive up prices. Another peeve is that those fellows that sell the counterfeit pieces are not called to the table. There is a whole section of the penal code that involves counterfeiting to decieve and selling with knowledge of counterfeiting to defraud. The crooks in this hobby do not seem to be stopped like they would in the art or DVD world.
