    SS rzm ring

Didn't know what section to file this topic, so I'll try here. Due to the s--tload of fakes out there, ( and I've had my share ) I wanted to run this through the forum ( ok armchairs )
This ring came from the collection of Ben Curtis, Dallas. He and Ben Swearingen are renown researchers/collector who has found many historical items such as the Sepp Dietrich SS sword, among others. I've had it for some time, not really too concerned about it as my intrest is in different areas of the 3rd Reich. It is really worn, as the rzm stamp is hardly reconizable, the 800 silver stamp has a faint crown over it, and the engraved Berlin stamp is worn also. It looks to be a private purchase ring. Has anyone seen another with this exact configuation ? Since I can only post one scan, please e-mail me for more. myky@ctesc.net. OK...... I see the rocks comin'................

    RZM Rings

I don't think there is any ring example that is considered original that has an RZM mark. I cannot think of even one.

        SS ring

OK guys........ that's what I wanted to find out......... thanks bunches....... I'm getting where I'm afraid to buy anything anymore. The fakers have killed the younger generations trying to get started, and are getting so good that us older guys that have been in collecting for years better stick to the area they are familiar with... Wonder how much luck I'll have in getting a refund or trade in from Curtis ? Myky

Whilst I agree with the overall sentiment I'd like to point out that there's never been a better time to collect SS militaria (with the possible exception of pre-May '45 ) ... there are specialist web dealers like The Collector's Guild where a full guarantee is offered and lovely, clear, close-up photo's available to view and also web forums where you can have items checked out ... most for free ... I remember none of this when I started collecting in the early 70's.

          Ian.

I agree. Though the fakes are getting better and better, there is also far more information available today than there was in the "old days." Today, through the internet, excellent information is at your fingertips. Moreover, via forums like these, you can get expert assistance from others around the world from the comfort of your own home...for free! If this resource had existed when we were all first learning, we would have made far fewer mistakes and saved a lot of money.

              Ring

These guys are right. And this forum is the best place to find information. As for the ring, even IF an RZM marked ring had existed (which it didn't), the RZM mark wouldn't look this horrible. Beware of ALL Third Reich jewelry. Known patterns of private purchase skull rings did exist, as well as others, but most Nazi rings you see are fake.
