    Pith Helmet Shields

I would like comments on the pith helmet shields. The runes shield has been restored by a young person with a paint brush. I believe it is a repro and the political shield is original?

i think you are right john the rune shield is a cast fake and the party shield i plausible and looks good to me
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

Yes, this stuff is part of a lot that some kid went to town on using model paints to "restore" belt buckles and medals etc. Punish daddy for not buying a Tamiya.

Phild ,As long as that party shield is not aluminum I think it is good. It should be zincish or Zamac(war metal).

I am kicking myself for not having bought them when they were offered on the estand. I would have grabbed them if I wasn't already in the middle of some other purchases.

                  Congrats, Peter.

By the way, I don't like either of the first pair.

The National shield is the second version made from a zinc based alloy slightly heavier than alluminum. I do not have any questions about that being original. It is dirty but all the detail is there (pebbled field etc.) . It is identical to the pair posted in "19" on the other thread but the posts have been painted black by the same artist that painted the runes. I was fairly sure on the runes (sadly) but was trying to be optomistic. This is part of a large lot that is half junk with originals mixed in from a very nice man but someone that did not know a lot about fakes etc. Thanks again,

                      J

                        J,
I don't think the party shield is real. I also don't care for the shields in the other thread as well. Perhaps others may disagree.

Sorry, but I agree with Brad and Pete on the first pair - not good...

The first pair posted are copies. The swastika shield is made of tin-antimony alloy and was made by Sazony House of Mokena, Illinois, in the 1980s.

The second pair shown by Peter Manzie are originals.

Pretty scary, looks very convincing. I will stick to Army. It would have to date from the early 80s.
