    Hi all,
What is your advice about this eagle and this Skull ?
    Thank you, best regards.

They appear to be original but oddly applied (or oddly re-applied). To me typical fez insignia though.

      Ian,

That is not an unusual application of insignia for a fez. It is fully original.

Many fezzes have the insignia sewn directly to the fez. However it is also fairly common to find the insignia having first received a backing of heavier woven material before they were sewn to the fez (as these were). I imagine that machine-sewing the insignia to the oddly shaped fez, while folding the excess material of the insignia underneath was rather difficult and that someone realized that by attaching a stiff backing and trimming the excess before application made sewing them to the fez a good bit easier and faster. This was probably a product of efforts to improve wartime efficiency.

What is typical fez insignia? Does a fez have unique eagles and skulls?

Hi Guys, I think you will find that what Ian means is that certain patterns of insignia frequently turn up on fez's.

            Cheers, Ade.

              Really,
Which ones are they? I have seen all varieties on the fez's. I have never seen a flat wire set on a fez however.

I have seen this kind of backing before on matching sets. Its a fine woven rayon/cotton cloth layer. I do not know the exact purpose of this but Im quite sure the insignias are originally applied to the fez.

There are also a variety of different skulls and eagles applied to Fezzes though this combination is quite common.

                  Nice looking Fez!
