waffen ss cossacks

hello to all, did the cossack who later joined the ss have to wear ss insignia as all the pictures i have seen show army uniforms and eastern volunteers rank insignia,were there plans to uniform the cossacks in ss uniform?? i've heard a few did put ss sleeve eagles on?? regards to all Ben

I've seen a photo of cossacks wearing SS uniform, but they were part of some SS unit during the Warsaw uprising (not sure if they belonged to Kaminski Brigade or were helpers at some other ss formation). The rest of the cossacks although officialy belonging to Waffen SS never wore any SS insignias.

yes ive seen that picture i think, why did the cossacks not wear ss insignia did they dislike the ss or something along them lines? regards

I do not think they were allowed to wear SS insignia.

I think the whole transfer of 15th cossack corps under SS was just a paperwork, like the other "paper ss divisions". Germans never had the sources , time or effort to re--outfit the cossacks with ss insignias.
