        Trap

With the exception of the Dachau pirate trap, I am unaware of any other bonafide original trap on black wool.

          Insignia

I've never seen one either. This, and the design and material lead me to believe it's not authentic. In fact, I'm sure it's not.

            Hello again,

Thanks for your opinions. As I said, I am not an expert in this kind of items. I collect spanish awards and Blue Division Items.

I know this is not important but the old owner said me that he got it 35 years ago, perhaps, for the experts, it could be important.

Today I saw another one almost identical in the last Hermann Historica auction (nº 54, lot 777), the main difference is that mine is black and the other is green.

            Thanks for your time.

              trapezoid Insignia

They appear to be made by the same manufacturer. I HAVE seen a few variations of this wool insignia posted by some very knowledgable collectors on this site. However, it is generally accepted that this design did NOT exist in black. Therefore, it casts doubt on the green one as well. I think they're both fake. Shown below is the only known black wool version:

I Hope the green one be an original one, Someone paid for it 850€ some days ago in an famous auction.

                Mine was a present.

Thanks again for your quick answer.

                  Trap

I'll be interested in what others have to say. As I said, some variations of this wool insignia exist. There are lots of copies, though. I believe the green wool traps like this are fairly rare, so you don't see too many examples posted. If one of the 2 you posted WAS real, it would be the green one.

                    Traps

Look at the stitching around BOTH insignias. I guess it's possible this odd style of stitching was period used, but I've never seen it. All wool traps I've seen on caps used a zig-zag stitch. Bevo traps usually had a straight stitch, or zig-zag. The odd stitching with the stitches perpendicular to each other like on both examples makes me believe strongly these are both fakes.

                      Traps

I was referring to the stitching around the EDGE of the insignias.

The green one was sold by Hermann Historica two days ago for 850 €, and the black one is mine.

Both of them are very similar and the stitching are identical. Really they appear to be made by the same manufacturer.

                        Regards

                          trap

Google on "Hessen Antique". They have repro traps with this same style stitching around the edge.

I saw Hessen Antique and it is similar, OK, but enough different with mine one. They make reproductions and I see they do a black one like mine. There was, at war time, paths in black like mine? If not, why they do a reproduction?

Just because it's been sold by Hermann Historica doesn't mean it's beyond reproach ... and I'm being VERY polite there.

Best study the items rather than the dealer or story behind them.
