So why the 5 buttons and the SS eagle? Would that be something normally done, a wm tunic issued and used by the Waffen SS?

If the eagle looks period sewn and right thread, it could be period or restored since then,with no provenanace you could never tell. Everything was being used at that part of the war as the supply transport system was bombed out of use. IMO this is an army tunic that has been embellished to sell as SS, I bet there is no skirt opening in this tunic too. IMO it is only worth the price of an army tunic and the eagle.
