Thanks, Lars. Would be interesting to see what you can find on him in his NARA file!

According to Ritterkreuztrager 1939-1945 by Gerhard von Seemen:

                      Alfred Siegling
Born: 15 March 1918 in Erlau, Thuringen
                      SS-Oberscharfuhrer, Spahtruppenfuhrer i.d. 1./SS-Panzer-Aufklarungs-Abteilung 2, "Das Reich", 4. Panzer-Armee, Armeegruppe Sud, Russian Front.
                      EK2 on 1 August 1940
                      EK1 on 1 April 1943
Awarded the Knight's Cross on 2 December 1943.
Final rank: SS-Untersturmfuhrer, which makes sense as he is wearing officer candidate collar insignia.

May I copy this photo and send it to my friend at WW2 Awards? It is a database on ALL WW2 Awards. http://www.ww2awards.com/. I try and help out whenever I can and provide photos and information.
