Mark, I do not know a lot about these things, but I can say this, if you have the LAH book by Cook and Bender, look at the cypher on the cover. The image is an excellent close up of which I think is an accepted original.
There are differences with yours and the one listed on the COOK & Bender book cover.
That being said, I do not know if there were more than 1 manufacturer who may have had different die types resulting in easily seen differences.
Specifically, if you look at the cypher of the book cover, you will see that where the top attachment arm to the H on the right is off the lower left shoulder of the A. The cypher you've posted shows the attachment off the left shoulder of the L. That is a major difference. There are other observed differences so take a look at the book cover to see what I mean.
With that, I am not saying yours is an original or a reproduction either, just an observed difference.
Was your shoulder tab German vet aquired?
