    Arm eagle for judgement.

    Hello,
Last one for today - what do you think? It is on a piece of black cloth so I have not shown the back. He has a little SS on his chestlike I saw in another thread so I hope this is also a good one. More pieces to follow in a day or two.

    Thanks,
    CRBeery

      Gary,
It is done in a straight stitch form not zig-zag. It looks machine done also.

      Thanks for the help!

                Chet,
while the eagle is original I do not think that it has been period added to the cloth as the welt is left out and this would frey in no time at all,
                cheers,
                gary

Here is an example sewn to a ss-bw tunic in the same way as yours, but notice how the welt is folded under, also the top line of stitching is hidden, as the eagle would be folded upwards stitched across the back then folded down and stitched around.

However I am not saying that all are done in this way, but that when they are sewn on with a ----- then the welt is folded under,
                  cheers,
                  Gary
PS I hope that makes sense

Here's one still sewn to a piece of sleeve. The top is folded under - but
                    zig-zag stitched.

This is for Gary: Gary you replied to CRBerry on 08/12/03, # 0406 re the arm eagle embrordried. I have the exact appearing one except it is in metal, I would guess silver because I have a large collection os U.S. pilot wings. This eagle that I have is solid, and very sanitary. It has the pin back and what appears to be a large letter A on the rear under the center of the pin. The horizontal part of the A carries a little before and after the A. I can't yet send a picture else I would. Do you think it is original and what is it? Lastly what approx is it worth ? It is in very good shape.

                          Hi Ernie;

I know I'm not Gary but what you have is a breast eagle, possibly Army with the Assman maker mark. These are heavily reproduced so we would need to see obverse and reverse shots of the item.
                          Best regards,

                          Tony
