    Opinions on SS Cap Insignia

Hi, need some expertise on this one. I am thinking it might be the real deal eventhough I haven't seen that exact skull anywhere yet. What do you think?
Sorry for the bad pics hope they'll do.

Thanks. Is it the skull or the eagle (or both) that worries you? As I wrote before I have tried to compare it with other of the sort, and have found the variety of the eagle but not of the skull, eventhough I have seen some that looks like it.

          Patch

Is the insignia background black, or is the photo just dark?

            Patch

The patch looks similar to this one, but I don't believe this style wool trapezoid existed in black.

I believe this is the only style wool trap that was made in black..

Thanks for the feedback. I also thought it was a little suspicious.

The skull looks like a mix of the two styles displayed here. Is this a well-known fake or is it because of the black cloth or any other details of this kind that give it away? I'd really like to learn these kinds of things.

The style of skull on your patch is only seen with a field green background (like the one I posted). The black (Panzer) wool patch always has a skull like the second one I posted. This is generally called a "pirate" skull, and most of these were found at the supply depot at Dachau, along with many unissued black Panzer M-43 caps with this insignia. This only applies to the WOOL trapezoid patches. There are several bevo weave trapezoid patches with different skulls. These came in both green AND black. If you PM me, I'll send you pics.

Not true I'm afraid. The "Pirate" trap wasn't the only style made in black, although the first one posted is as you say, a fake.

okay, now I am getting a little confused, we DO agree that the one I posted is a fake or what?
By the way, the material is wool with some coating on the back...
