    Hi Ben,

Yes, that is correct. After December 1 st 1944 it was forbidden to use the balck uniform for "the rest of the war". They introduced the grey uniorm and used GSSN insignia on it. They used standard Waffen SS grey uniforms.

      Hi,

This is a picture from a period newspaper taken after the war was over. The GSSN person is taken by the resistance and are to be transported to prison camp.

He is should have used the overseas cap with TK (no eagle) as headgear. Other headgear was not allowed as per GSSN uniform regulations.

field-grey SS tunics used by Germanske SS

They did switch to field-grey Waffen SS tunics slightly modified,
as the following 1945 dated picture shows! Peeling back the Norwegian eagle and the factory applied SS sleeve eagle is revealed!! I had posted this before!

I’ve tried to translate the text to the last photo, which is in Swedish and comes from the Swedish military defence staff’s arcive.

"Q.’s GSS’s police uniform, which very expressly has been made for the Norwegian people as an ordinary police uniform unveils with this photo. The insignia with the N.S sunwheel was just camo. It has been sewn on top of the German insignia. In case of war, it was ment that it was to be teared off the uniform and with that became an ordinary German soldier's uniform."

                  Hi,

Yes, this is what as in the Swedish text says. It is a very interesting report from Swedish intelligence. GSSN was not a police unit and they was not wearing a uniform that looked like the one the police was using. This report was made just after the war so it is very interesting seen in a historical setting.

If you read the uniform regulations it was specified that the army eagle should not be sewn on. It was to be carried in the pocket. Same reason for only using the TK on the cap according to regulations. The cap eagle on the overseas was also not to be worn. GSSN was not a military unit, this was the political SS in Norway. Based on their training and background (a lot of old waffen ss people etc.) this can of course be debated as much military training was included, but still, GSSN was not part of Waffen SS. Use of the German national symbol (eagle with swastika) was not to be used unless part of a German unit. As far As I understand using such symbols was regulated by German authorities quite strictly. Since the regulations prepared the GSSN men to put on the German arm eagle it is obvious that they had seen the possible use of the GSSN as soldiers and thereby converting the men into a military unit and placing them under military command.

We have seen other examples of the grey jacket with the eagle in place under the GSSN bird but this must be exception and not the rule. Only very few pictures of GSSN men in the grey uniform exist, but we can see that a mix of insignia was used as it seems that former waffen ss memebers used their old uniforms and replace all/some of the insignia. Unfortenetly I do not have pictures to post, maybe other members have.

                        Hi Ben.

There are very few books about the black GSSN uniforms etc.
You have the book by David Littlejohn; Foreign Legions of the Third Reich Vol.1. Norway, Denmark, France.
There are no books about the green GSSN uniforms.
Within 2009 a friend and me will come with a book about the Germanske SS Norge. Black, green and all about the GSSN !

                        Regards
                        Derek
