This style is wrong for the slip ons... these were the flowery style which were only embroidered directly into the shoulder strap. As the Waffen-SS grew, flexibility was introduced to the SS-Clothing-Works and unit specific shoulder straps were discontinued. Thus the slip on ciphers for LAH, Deutschland, Germania, Der Fuhrer, Westland and Nordland. Now the SS-BW could make generic shoulder straps (waffenfarben being the only unique characteristic) and then issue them to any unit. LAH and others with regimental ciphers, could then acquire the slip on ciphers and make their shoulder straps unit specific. Officers and NCOs wore the metal ciphers.
