    Donnerwetter,
IMO the eagle it's a fake.
All documented eagles that I know like original of the mid/late war dont have the cotton cloth in the reverse side, this seams wasnt the tecnic used to construct and embroiderer the rzm eagle in this time of the war (sure isnt a early pattern), they have other criterion of construction.
Also IMO seams a eagle with the head, wings, body that come from different models of rzm eagles...this happen often on fakes.
    Just my opinion.

Thanks for the explaination Lorenz. I also noticed that this eagle seems to be a combination of different types of RZM styles....a combo of mid and late war eagles. Upon closer examination of the wings, I also have concerns over the way they are sewn. The thread from the wings, on both sides, seems to be going the same way. I have never seen eagle wings sewn this way. In my experience (please correct me if I'm wrong) the thread of the top wing feathers should face outward, and the thread from the main wing feathers should face inward toward the body. I have illustrated what I mean. Thanks for the interesting debate.

      Alex

This is the way the wings are sewn on this eagle.

This is the way it should be.

As I have indicated, I had my doubt about it so I have no problem accepting it as a fake.

Just for the record though, the embroidery on the wings are angled away from the eagles body, on both wings. Have tried to make some better close-up photos of the wings.

I found in a drawer this eagle today, I take off it from an original SS tunic restored with fake insigna some years agò...it seams the same model or very similar at your eagle Donnerwetter..

Yes, apart from the head and body, it is identical. I think there is no more reason to discuss my eagle. The verdict is: fake!
