Very late SS Zelt, missing some details.

Hi all,

I just got this SS oakleaf Zeltbahn. I wondered if it is a very late war one because its missing the big rivet holes in the corners. Also the two small rivet holes at the center bottom are missing.
The button hole stitching is also different then on others I have.

What are your thoughts ? Is it a late war feature without the holes ?

imo the are unfinished,your is with buttos,I have seen some without.
many from this zelts are found in Czech republic.

SS Oak camo was the last material to be used to make zelts out of so yes, it is a late war example. The lack of grommets would make it useless as a tent. Does it have the head opening in the center? My guess is it was an unfinished one. If it has the head opening, it still may have been worn for camouflage. The holes punched & grommet installation would have been the last step in the manufacturing process.

yes, it has the head opening. Everything is like on a standard tent except for the 3 big grommets and the 2 small ones.
Unfinished would be the best posibility, thanks.
I just thought they might have issued these without the grommets very late in the war.

Looks like an Oakleaf "B" pattern.

Hello,

This is indeed a late war zeltbahn.

There were some changes in the fabrication of these zeltbahns, as the war progressed:
- pre-war and early war: two rings
- from roughly 1943: one ring
- Late-war: No rings

And ofcourse the use of alluminium, metal, zinc, bakelite buttons etc.

Yes, late war and issued this way, they do also exist in the combination "with grommets and without buttons&button holes". Usually oak B.
