    Agree.
Also, with a 1944 date the ring was only 'out there' for wear by the original owner for a year or less. So the wear would have occured post war.
While some of that did occur - see my prior post - it's atypical for these to be worn post war.
I also agree with Robin's comments that when the wear occurs on the reverse it's common for the insignia to be entirely gone within the circle along with the circle as well.

          I bet it's a lot earlier than 1944.

You've got to have a very practised eye to even recognize it as a SSTK ring. It just looks like a circular silver colored lumpy thing..........

I bet it has a history. Don't tease us; who was the original recepient??

              Ring

Yeah, there's no doubt that a lot of the wear on 21.12.44 rings is most likely post-war, though it's not very hard to scratch these things up fairly quickly. I will post better pics momentarily on ne topic. Thanks !!

I would like to see better pics too. The engraving and the inner scriptions look very close to a real one. But better pics will say a lot.

Everyone knows that you are not going to find a real Totenkopfring on a beach in California. But here is one that a man I know found a few years ago with a metal detector in a field near Falaise in Normandy.
