I can't speak to the sand/skull story but 30 years ago a friend of mine in Dallas (who was a personnel manager) was interviewing a job appliciant and the applicant was wearing a genuine TK ring his father had brought back from the war.
My buddy bought the ring from the applicant before the interview was over.
And, no, he did not hire the appliciant.Comment

Sorry, guys !! Just a little mischief. Unfortunately, the only rings you'll ever find in THAT sand are a hippy chick's toe ring.
THIS IS TRUE, HOWEVER......... I knew this guy who collected 3rd Reich items years ago, and he had a couple of antique signs worth about $15 each. Some guy traded him a 30.6.34 Totenkopfring for those signs. The ring was awarded to Paul Geisler, who appears in the SS 1934 Dienstaltersliste. It was fairly worn, but definitely original. This was about 30 years ago. Now, THERE was a lucky guy!!Comment

It's difficult to explain, but the wear should be more even across the surface of the ring, especially the circular runic badge at the back, which got most of the wear. It's a bit like 'distressed' furniture.............it just looks wrong.
It could just be the photos though. Others might want to chip in and disagree.Comment

The whole purpose for the original thread was just mischief to get everyone riled up over the "amazing luck" of finding a TKR in the sand, something we all dream about. No problem. I could be wrong...............it's happened before.
The engraving inside the ring does look very good.
But if you take a look at the ring shown at the beginning of the thread below, it shows what I regard as more 'natural' wear.
The silver used in these rings was very pure, and so very soft. It wore quickly right across the band.
