    SS officers tab

What the peoples think about this one. Looks like well worn tab, but I never seen in thread like that. Most of wehrmacht mid war tabs seen with that kind of thread. Backing looks OK to me, but would hear your opinion. Thanks

I"am sorry, but I would hear an experienced/advanced opinion. The thread/cloth and backing is period made, but I've newer seen seen this combination. Please tell me if that is possible. The work is good, and this is not Pakistan work. I'am not a novice to hear- THAT IS THE FAKE, please your feeling about that, and why.
            Regards,
            Dimas

My spontaneus reaction to this tab is that I would personally not have bought it.

Its to far away from known original patterns. This does not make it a fake but one strong reason to take into consideration when tossing up the cash for a puchase.

Its a tight woven tab and thats positve though its not what some refer to as rext book shape of the runes and angle.
On the negative side is the ageing on the reverse. I do not fancy at all the strange dirt on the backing. Thats a clear red flag as this is what you see on many fake tabs around. Originals, though worn selldom have this kind of dirt from age.
From the photos it seems like a two strand twisted wire tab?

All in all I would personally pass on this tab.

Youre correct about the threads as well. Its too far away from whats accepted as original.

Strong concers about originality! This tab might be believable only if first hand from and old vet in a shed, and even then one should be careful!

Advice is to save your money IMO.

In Cloth insignias of the SS there is a photo of an SS officer wearing a tab with the runes canted that way,but its difficult to see the details of the threads.

Actually that photo seem to be period doctored to make the insignia look more sexy. I would not take that photo as proof of this style of tab.

Wait one minute....How much does the collar cost? What is the price? Maybe it is only $25. If so, what makes the difference. If the source is reasonable, then for that price you should take a chance and add it to your collection as a possible variation. You can claim that it is a rare variation and only 5 are known in the world.
