    Early Allgemeine SS Peaked Cap

Since there were several similar caps posted recently, here's an early example for comparison and study. The insignia are replacements, but were chosen to match the cap condition. The type of wool and evidence where an RZM tag once resided, date the cap to around 1934 or 1935. The totenkopf is made by St.&L. of Ludenscheid, which is the only early totenkopf generally seen
that is RZM marked. It is also marked GES. GESCH. No code numbers. The cap cost me $500 about 20 years ago. I sold my Rolex Submariner to get it. No regrets!!

Bill underside. Forehead area behind sweatband has bright orange sponge-like material that is very brittle!!

Wonderful early visor. Has anyone else noticed the habit of sewing the side lining panels to the pasteboard on a lot of pre-war caps? This trait seemed to die out as time went by.
