    SS Decals

It is accepted by many that authentic period helmet decals are too brittle to transfer properly without tearing. Is this true, or is it possible for an original SS or other decal to be recently applied to a plain helmet? Also, if the applied decal is curved or distorted somewhat, wouldn't that imply the decal was original because an old decal that is modern applied would be too dry to stretch?

Very interesting question. I believe I've seen a couple helmets recently with good decals that appeared to have been put on post 1945. The damage appeared to have happened while the decal was still "wet" and the decals condition did nto match that of the helm. Now, could a decal have been damage while it was being installed pre 1945 and left that way, I suppose but at least the decal would have seen the same abuse as the paint on the helm over the next 60+ years.

I know there are those out there that can apply a period decal, but not to damage it or distort it will be difficult.

    Sepp.

well mi firends, concerning this type of forgery, I can say that we did examine a Fj helmet that i think has an original SS decal put on it to pass it as a FJ 600 helmet

Yet i can say, that in my field of expertise, which are spnaish volunteer helmets this 2007 around 4 helmets surfaced with original decals, post war applied to original helmets!!!!!!!

One of them very cleverly aged and the others with just the tipical sand papaer or just without patina in comparison to the other helmets!!!!!!

So yes it can be done without taring the decal, i guess you must use a special proces or chemicals toget ti right!!!!!!

          But watch out
