    Original ss edelweiss?

    Hi Guys.

I know nothing of this kind of insignia.
I was told this is an original ss gebirgsjäger insignia for a hat (M43 einheitsfeldmütze, I would think?)
Please let me know of your opinions, because I have a month to return.
Let me know if you want more closeup pics.
    Thank you for looking.

    Hi,

I can't help you with your badge I'm afraid, but it has urged me to have a closer look at the one in my collection! I bought it a couple of years ago because it was cheap! I have never really closely scrutinised it, it was apparently found in the cellar of a barracks somewhere in Germany. All I know is that it is a Gebirgsjäger capbadge. Until know I have never noticed the makers initials K.B. on the reverse! Could anyone fill me in on my Capbadge too? Sorry to piggyback onto your thread HCS, but I thought it would be a good comparison, as there are many differences.

i love gebirgsjager stuff, but im puzzled by this.

the centre looks different to others ive seen, and there appears to be no holes to sew on the badge (no pins either). im gonna say no but im not an expert on this.

plus i know that deschler sculls are scarce, but im not sure when it comes to edelweiss'. i would imagine most fakers would use that marking but i cant be positive.

hopefully some of the more experienced guys can help

Remember, the RZM only controlled civil/party insignia, not military insignia.

I can't say whether it is original or not, but that style of edelweiss was used, not by the military moutain troops, but by the NSFK Gruppe 17.

              I found this thread:

I agree, a Deschler & Sohne badge made for a pre-war Party organisation. Wehrmacht equipment was controlled by the OKW, and during the war the RZM retained control of the ephemera, buckles, insignia etc of the Waffen SS, although not the uniforms and headgear itself.

BTW since when are M1/52 skulls rare ? Of all those found I'd say the majority are Deschlers.

                Ian.
