    SS trumpet banner?

A friend of mine wanted me to post this for him. What are some thoughts on this one? Real or not? I told him I would find out for him. I had no idea as I have never had an interest in these. Ask for any more pics if need be.
    Thanks, Scott

too big for a trumpet banner IMO unless for very long trumpet. a podium or lectern banner more than likely. and didn't TBs have nickel swivel clips? what's on the other side? markings?
I've not much idea about originality but I think the fringe should cover the edges not stick out from them. and brown thread seems a little suspect; I mean the SA used that color and the SA and SS weren't too close as you might've heard... and it;s hard to imagine a seamstress for the SS saying no black thread around here (yeah, sure...) so let's use this brown spool. Just thoughts of a generalist.

        Messrs. Lumsden or Coleman?

Bottom line is it's very difficult to tell with these things, especially from photos.

          This is because:

          1. There were many original variants and qualities. Early SS units had these banners made locally. Some were done by the relatives of SS men and presented as gifts to their units. This was also common in Wehrmacht formations, ex-servicemen's associations, HJ units, etc. etc.

          2. They are easy to fake, and made easier still by the fact that the fakers don't have to adhere to any type of 'regulation' material or design, or bother with markings as originals were unmarked.

The zig-zag stitching around the runes is common to both originals and fakes, as are the hanging loops. Some originals had loops, some had metal clips or leather straps of varying widths.

The only common denominator is that chain stitching was very frequently seen on originals and is hardly ever seen on fakes.

Even quality of design or artistic merit means little.

The banner below is a known fake, just for quality comparisons.

Thanks for the comments on this one. My friend found this one in a situation that was either an elaborate set up to the max or was ok. He got another item from the same place. I need to get pics of it and post them.
            Thanks, Scott

Scott, that looks exactly as the pieces that were made [via Latvia] ,and sold thru a auction house in Central Indianna in the early 1990s..
No glow whites were used, no synthetics. Either a really soft cotton was used on the later ones or a canvas type material on the early ones..

                No

I simply do not like the low quality of the item and it looks like no known originals.

The silver fringe is to straggle, looks like low quality

I will pass all this on. Thanks for the info. This is why I will not touch any SS or most german items anymore.
