I have a question about the panzer Dachau m-43s that have the cardboard exposed under the bill and the pirate skull. Were these made where the sides drop down or are the sides sewn part way also did these ever make it into use or were they cut off from being issued like many of the Dachau insignia?

Not an SS collector but I have owned a couple of these hats. The sides drop down as a normal M43 hat. I believe I have seen pictures before showing them in use. I'm hopeful one of the members has such a photo. -
These were fully functional M1943 field caps with the ear muffs coming down... I believe there are some examples around of some of these being used during the war, but not many. By the time these were being manufactured, the transportation system was bombed back to the Renaissance.
