            Hi,

Agree. All birds are fake. The middle one is a copy/fake of the common late war eagle often found in mint condition.

It´s hopeless, all people who collect such items must be very crazy. I search for a long time an eagle for my nice M.43 tunic. I fear there is no hope to find an 100% good item. If I look at the fake thread.....I would not identify the most of the eagles as an fake......Is there anyone on this planet who can make an 100% identification ??? I have big doubts.....

I'm sorry, but studying these items prevents you from becoming hopeless. How can you say that there is no hope in finding an original armeagle ??? How much time have you invested in finding one? What price do you think one needs to pay for an original eagle? There are enough sellers who sell original mid-war type eagles at a 'normal' price. Or are you thinking of finding an original eagle priced 20 USD ?

And yes, all eagles posted in this topic are fake. Period. I detest statements like: "Is there anyone on this planet who can make an 100% identification" We are only talking about an arm eagle here... Too me, that's a statement typically heard on low quality militaria fairs and shows, and made by
                    a) unscrupelous sellers, who are trying to sell their POS as original at prices 1/3 of a normal price and who have interest in arosing the thought that there is no one who can tell for sure
                    b) beginning collectors that lack study and/or a critical mind, and who are giving up.

                    kind regards,
                    Gerd V

It took about 25 seconds to get to this page also if you can't tell the difference in straightforward, textbook, sleeve eagles I fear for your ''nice M.43 tunic".

Sure you're not in the wrong hobby ?

                      Cheers, Ian.

If you think it is difficult to find original mid war correct SS sleeve eagles just wait until you try to find and buy Bevo or metal SS cap eagles and skulls! These are even better faked than the sleeve eagles and originals tend to stay on the market for minutes or hours rarely days. Also the same is true for SS steel EM belt buckles, all SS officer belt buckles....and try to find an original pair of SS EM Infantry shoulder straps.....they are much rarer to find than Heer Generals tunics, even though there would have had to have been at least one million pair made during the war.

Well, I would have to agree. For you, it is hopeless. I suggest you try stamp collecting.

I have to disagree with your statement regarding identifying fakes. Just because a collecting field is tough, does not mean it is impossible. It just means you will have to put forth the effort if you wish to learn. I guess it translates into "how bad do you want to know......"

If you believe something is impossible, it will be for you. I understand I am only a student of TR collecting, but I have a passion to learn. I consider the WAF to be an excellent place for that, and I appreciate those more knowledgable collectors that share their insight.

Maybe if you put in the effort, you will one day have that elusive 100% authentic eagle for your M43.
